USC Football Recruiting: Five-Star WR Announcing This Week

A big decision is coming this week for USC football recruiting as five-star WR Mike Matthews has dropped his top four schools and commitment date. USC currently has the #6 class in the country, but with a commitment from Matthews, that ranking could move up a spot or two.

Five-Star WR Mike Matthews Will Announce College Decision August 19th, USC a Finalist

The coveted recruiting target will be announcing his decision on Wednesday, and he is down to four schools. The teams battling for Matthews are USC, Tennessee, Georgia, and Clemson. Matthews currently attends Parkview High School in Lilburn, GA, so these other schools have the geographical advantage over USC.

According to 247 Sports, Matthews is a five-star recruit and the #13 player in the 2024 class, the #4 WR, and the #3 player in Georgia. If he does end up committing to USC, he will be the highest-ranked player in the 2024 class. Right now, the top player in the class is WR Xavier Jordan, who ranks #67 in the entire 2024 class.

The experts believe that Matthews is going to stay in SEC country. Current crystal ball predictions are heavily leaning towards Tennessee, but we won’t know anything for sure until it comes from Matthews himself.

In Matthews’ most recent season for Parkview, he racked up 1,030 yards and 9 touchdowns on 48 receptions. It is no surprise that he holds such an impressive ranking in the 2024 class. Whichever school lands Matthews will be very fortunate, and let’s hope that it’s USC.
